Pro-Life in the Womb But Not Pro-LIfe in the World

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

During this election year, when it is imperative that conservatives garner every vote from Obama, it seems prudent to step back and access the mixed message conservatives serve to women in the media.

Conservatives struggle with ideals of limited government, moral rectitude, and pro-life missions. They want both sides of the argument to be their victory and yet, it cannot be. There is a dichotomy in the works, a clash of ideals.

Even though statistics prove that social issues win elections for conservatives, the party of “father knows best” still needs to bridge the gender gap to win in 2012. This is proving to be complex. The pressing issue is the pro-life stance and the single mother taboo.

How can one simultaneously be pro-life and support single mothers while appeasing the principles of the party? Single mothers, after all are touted as an irresponsible drag on society both morally and financially.

Herein lies the conundrum. Conservatives who are pro-life seek to show pregnant women the ultra sound of the babies, prodding them to keep the God given miracle, but they do nothing to combat a public relations campaign that condemns the single mothers of these children as Godless and immoral.

They cradle the mother until she cradles the child and then let her walk into the world where she has to hear the bullet fire of grim statistics and sure-fire damnation shouted from none other than – conservatives.

This blatant disregard for the life of the woman who chooses life, and for the life of her child, is duplicitous. Do conservatives not see that they are sending less brave pregnant women and terrified pregnant girls straight to Planned Parenthood for an abortion?

Conservative doublespeak in the media regarding the pro-life stance sends women running to the less judgmental Democratic party. This begs the question, where are the pro-life men and women in the media who should be defending the brave single mothers who choose life?

Though many conservatives work behind the scenes to support these single mothers, in front of the camera they close up like a clam.

This is why so many women choose abortion. They are afraid of the stigma. They hear conservative men and women spouting off statistics about how their children will be strippers, drug addicts and incarcerated and how they, the mothers who birthed the child, are distained by society.

Conservative candidates do occasionally pander to the single mother as heroic but then spout words like “child out of wedlock” and “illegitimate” in the next sentence accompanied by the woes the world has to offer her and her child. They insinuate her immorality as part of “deviant modern times.”

Not every pregnant woman is simply looking for a handout. Not every single mother wants to live off of the government. Not every single mother is amoral and ignorant. Not every single mother seeks a life without the father. Not every single mother is faithless.

Speaking of the father. Where is he? He is relatively blameless in the press – blithely carefree and unscathed.

Are conservatives considering the political ramifications, if not the moral ones? Their message in the media can be summed up as this, “I am pro-life. Abortion is a sin, yet woe to the single mother and her child. She is a modern amoral matriarch and her child’s life is doomed.”

This is the paradox presented to the conservative movement. Morally, how does one support the child yet alienate the mother who supports the child? How does one who cares for life, set that life up to fail from the very beginning?

Politically, the conservative movement cannot win the women’s vote with a message such as this.

For those who are pro-life, the message of hope and emotional support should not stop within the private walls of the shelter. The burden is on the pregnant woman who has to walk out into the world and hold her head high and it is on the child, destined by God to be here, who has to prove his/her condemners wrong.

Like Jesus’ message of love, a language of compassion does not endorse alternative lifestyles. An act of public support simply blesses the “life”, the child conservatives sought to bring to fruition, and the mother with an act of inspiration and hope.

To win elections and to win with life, the pro-life conservatives in the press shouldn’t consistently drop the single mother and her child into a pronounced destiny of despair and ill repute –  no matter what the statistics.

If they continue to condemn, then they are promoting pro-life in the womb, but not pro-life in the world.

Americans Now Think the Government is Their Pursuit of Happiness

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Today, most Americans think that their rights are given to them by the government and that the government is their pursuit of happiness. The new mantra, instead of Patrick Henry’s “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” is “Give me Liberty and Give me, Give me!”

It is alarming how many kids, when questioned who gives them their inalienable rights, say, “the government.” It is also surprising how many kids do not know that America is a republic. What is most telling and potentially devastating to liberty, however, is that most kids, when asked what the Constitution is say, “Freedom of speech!”

Of course, the Bill of Rights is a signature piece of the Constitution but its thesis dates back to the days of the Magna Carta. What is genuinely American, and what is specific to maintaining our rights, are the laws set forth in the Articles I-VII of the Constitution. The miraculous accomplishment of our founding fathers is that they encapsulated the American government into a checks and balances system that preserves inherent rights.

Democratic Party Should Be Renamed Bureaucrat Party

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Click Here to read my Washington Examiner Article, “The Democratic Party Should Be Renamed Bureaucrat Party”

…”Bureaucratic government is like a twisted, littered staircase spiraling down into an abyss of inadequacy. The bureaucrats continually trespass upon the good will of the people. Democrats have abused the faith of their constituents while transferring their liberties into the hands of the bureaucratic machine.

Metamorphosis has thus transformed the Democrats — a progression of their own finely crafted method of operation. Slowly, yet surely, the Democratic Party has wrestled the torch of liberty from the hands of the people, and has lit a “bonfire of the vanities.”…

House Leaders Should Enforce Constitutionality Rule

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Click Here or click “Read This Post” for my latest Washington Examiner Column, “House Leaders Should Enforce Constitutionality Rule”:

“A stunning 732 bills cited Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 – often referred to as the “Commerce Clause” – as their constitutional justification. Case is point: Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) used the Commerce Clause when he proposed a bill to “encourage and ensure the use of safe football helmets…” It is a misnomer to insinuate that “use of safe football helmets” fall under the same category as regulating interstate commerce……..

It is ironic that a rule has to be put in place to make sure that those who are sworn to preserve, protect and defend the United States Constitution govern by the laws of such. It is disgraceful, and ultimately dangerous, that many still do not. It is the responsibility of the House to maintain an adherence to its own rules. The House Rule XII, Section 7(c) was a good idea whose time had come. Now, it is time that it be executed.”

“America, and American unity, are best served with when positive action defies race by being blind to race. We are all a part of the human race. God sees no color. God sees no party. God sees only His proposed purpose in the lives He creates. It is up to us to find it and to deliver it.”
